Growing up in Punjab, a state known for its strong kabaddi tradition, Maninder was naturally drawn to the sport from a young age. He honed his skills in local circle tournaments, eventually catching the attention of talent scouts. He has been coached by Arjuna Awardee coach Hardeep Singh and has received unwavering support from his father, who shares a deep passion for kabaddi.
Career
Maninder’s breakthrough came during the 2011 National Kabaddi Championship, where he led the Punjab senior team to a silver medal, scoring an impressive 12 points in the final match. While still a college student, he was recommended by Punjab State Police team coach Paramjit Singh, who selected him for the side.
Pro Kabaddi League Record
Maninder Singh made his Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) debut in the inaugural season with Jaipur Pink Panthers, quickly establishing himself as one of the most reliable raiders in the league.
In that first season, he played 16 matches and scored a total of 137 points, with 130 of them being raid points. His brilliance was instrumental in helping Jaipur lift their first PKL title. However, after this successful season, Maninder suffered a severe back injury, and doctors advised him to take a three-year break from kabaddi.
He made his return in PKL Season 5, this time with a new team, the Bengal Warriors. Maninder didn’t disappoint, scoring 190 raid points in his comeback season. Since then, he has been a consistent performer for Bengal, scoring 200+ points in every season up to Season 9. His leadership and raiding prowess helped Bengal win their first PKL title in Season 9, with Maninder serving as captain.
Season 8 saw Maninder reach new heights, as he accumulated 262 raid points in 22 matches, finishing as the third-highest raid point scorer of the season.
In the 2024 PKL auction, Bengal Warriors retained Maninder for a substantial sum of Rs. 1.15 crore, recognizing his crucial role in the team’s strategies.
