Team India skipper Rohit Sharma has dropped major hints about the playing XI for the first Test against Bangladesh, and it looks like some fan-favorite youngsters might not make the cut.
What did Rohit Sharma say on India’s Playing 11 for 1st Test?
In a pre-match press conference, Sharma gave a nod to the incredible talent of young players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, and Sarfaraz Khan. However, he subtly indicated that both Sarfaraz and Jurel might not feature in the series opener. With anticipation building, fans are now left wondering if India will stick with the seasoned stars or give the younger guns a shot.
Rohit spoke highly of Jaiswal and Jurel, praising their hunger and potential to excel across all three formats. “We don’t need to speak too much to them,” he said, pointing out that both Jaiswal and Jurel have already proven their abilities with the bat and in Jurel’s case, also behind the stumps. “They are very hungry to play cricket for India. There’s a hunger for success,” he added.
Rohit also highlighted Jaiswal’s strong performance in the recent series against England and Jurel’s grit under pressure. Yet, despite these glowing words, it seems these youngsters might have to wait a little longer for their turn in the spotlight.
In contrast, Rohit heaped praise on Sarfaraz Khan’s fearless approach, describing him as a player unbothered by external pressures. He stressed the importance of having a balanced mix of fearless, cautious, and responsible players in the squad, signaling that the team management is looking to maintain this equilibrium for the Bangladesh series.
“Jaiswal had a very good series last time. Jurel got runs under pressure. Sarfaraz Khan is fearless, not worrying too much about what happens outside. We have that mix of everything, and it’s a good sign,” Rohit stated, hinting at a lineup that blends experience and fearless young talent.

Rohit Sharma on KL Rahul said at the press conference: “There are a handful of people in world cricket who had a smooth ride. A handful of cricketers had no issues all their life, it was all good. Everyone has an up-and-down career. The best thing to do is to understand yourself, expectations from yourself and what’s needed for the team.
The kind of quality KL Rahul has, everybody knows. Our message to him was that we wanted him to play all the games and bring the best out of him. It’s important to give him a clear message about what he needs from him. He has done well since his comeback – scored a hundred against South Africa.
Unfortunately got injured after Hyderabad, and didn’t play afterward. I hope he continues from where he left off in Hyderabad. I don’t see any reason why he can’t flourish in Test cricket. Opportunities are there. Important for him to understand how he wants to take his career forward.”
With the first Test against Bangladesh just around the corner, Rohit’s remarks have stirred up excitement and speculation among cricket enthusiasts. Will the skipper stick with the tried-and-tested players, or will he surprise everyone by unleashing the young talents? The answer will unfold as the team takes the field, leaving cricket fans eagerly awaiting the final call.
